What relationships are woven into wool?
At New Order of Fashion at Strijp-S, a new generation of international designers explores this question through garments, films and installations shaped by wool.
This exhibition traces wool from the landscapes and animals from which it originates to the minds and hands that shape its future. Between the living animal and the finished design lies a rich network of people, places and practices of labour, knowledge and care. Yet many of these connections have become invisible to the people who encounter wool in its final applied form. As they disappear from sight, our understanding of how this material comes into being fades with them.
By reconnecting with the knowledge, care and ecologies woven into wool, Flock, Folk, Field invites us to build a regenerative future for fashion.
Flock, Folk, Field brings these relationships back into focus through three interconnected perspectives:
Flock considers the relationships between living beings, materials, makers and wearers, and the forms of care embedded within them.
Folk turns to craft, community, memory and the knowledge passed between generations and across cultures.
Field looks to the land, the seasons, and the farmers, shepherds and foragers who steward the resources from which materials emerge.
