Shed & Heddle 2023, Role

Shed & Heddle is a project by designer Pollyanna Moss and weaver Eva Klee that exposes knowledge about weaving with wool in the North Brabant region. Starting with the sheepfold and ending with a 100% wool blanket, Moss and Klee together explore how local wool can be repurposed in yarn spinning and weaving facilities present in textile laboratories and weaving workshops in the region.

The project takes place at three locations: the sheep stable on the Strabrechtse Heide in Heeze, the New Order of Fashion Textile Lab in Eindhoven and the Weverijmuseum in Geldrop. Over a period of nine months, Moss and Klee will work at these locations on their research into weaving with wool from sheep to loom. Within the process of making a blanket, they conduct a case study of small-scale production.

Shed & Heddle rescues wool that would otherwise be wasted, to be reintroduced into the loom. By applying fiber processing and weaving capabilities from semi-mechanized, existing textile laboratories, the duo creates a range of blankets. The result is a material research that studies the value of local wool using various techniques
and combinations.
