Lecture: Woolen blankets then and now
A small white and blue woolen blanket lies in a display case at the Weaving Museum. It is the first blanket woven in 1916 at the Wollendekenfabriek Nederland in Geldrop. The closure of this factory in 1976 was a direct impetus for the establishment of the current Weaving Museum. Art historian Mirjam Deckers (Radboud University) and weaver Eva Klee (WOLWEVERS) delved into the history of this factory. In doing so, they discovered, among other things, that the factory was granted a patent in 1938 for a new type of woolen blanket and its weaving method. In this lecture, Mirjam Deckers discusses the archival research with which they reconstructed the story of 'de Nederland'. Eva Klee will show how she sat down at the loom to test the patent and what results this yielded. She will also show how wool weavers apply this patent in their blankets.
When: June 14, 2026, 14:00-15:30
Where: Weverijmuseum Geldrop
Cost: €15 per ticket (€5.50 for museum card holders)

After the lecture WOLWEVERS will be hosting a special sale of the blankets and pillows within our collection, as well as some first sneek-peeks of tests into double wide blankets and more.
