Wolwevers 2025, Role

Wolwevers strive to weave the finest blankets from Dutch heather wool.

From day one, we were amazed by the high quality of this wool from the Kempen Heath sheep. We are surprised that the vast majority is still being destroyed, simply because there is no market.

In the past, this sheep was crossbred with the Merino sheep, a sheep with very soft wool. This makes the wool of the Kempen Heath sheep softer than, for example, the wool of the Drenthe Heath sheep. However, the wool varies from sheep to sheep. Therefore, it is important that the wool is selected after shearing. The wool of the Kempen Heath sheep has a high insulating value and is therefore ideally suited for blankets. With our blankets, we want to demonstrate that the wool of the Kempen Heath sheep—Dutch wool—is exceptionally high-quality.

The roaming flocks of Kempen Heath sheep are essential for the maintenance and preservation of the heathlands. They graze and fertilize the heathlands simultaneously. Without them, the Dutch heathlands and their remarkable biodiversity would disappear.

We weave with undyed or vegetable-dyed wool. Only a small portion of our wool is chemically dyed. This is because there is currently no other alternative.

By purchasing a Wolwevers blanket, you contribute to the revaluation of Dutch heath wool and knowledge about wool weaving.
